In response to Issues posted by Brother_Jones:

Maybe feeding the hungry, or clothing the naked, or answering to any other human need IS a way to "make disciples."
.
If you hadn't had anything to eat in two days, would you think kindly of someone who insisted on your listening to a sermon before you could have something to eat?
.
If you had been in deep despair for weeks on end, which would you rather hear, words about what terrible a sinner you are, or words of hope and healing?
.
Would a tract about the second coming ease your physical pain?
.
Did Jesus ever walk up to someone and say, "You must be healed"?
.
I believe people will want to know why anyone would care to feed or comfort them. I believe people need to know hope first. And I believe they will listen better if they want to know, rather than having it foisted upon them.
.
peace and love,
Paper Turtle

Listen better to what? What voice are they supposed to hear? Yours? Mine?

I think we have come full circle. What message about Jesus? Certainly not the gospel of Christ that He physically came into this world to die for our sins. And then He was raised from the dead. And He is coming back for us. That isn't your message or much of any liberal's message.

So what message would you share with anyone about Jesus if they were fed, fat, and woke up this morning wondering why Jesus came teaching anyone to repent. I don't believe you have any message for a person seeking redemption. I've yet to hear or see it in print.

I don't mind trying to answer the question, Pinky.
.
I'm all eyes/ears.
.
It is very odd that she would ask me.
.
Why would that be odd? You believe that Jesus is God, and you raised the subject of prayer. Seemed appropriate to ask you.
.
I'll repeat my question: "Scriptures say that Jesus prayed many times. Since there is only ONE God, and if Jesus and God are ONE God, was Jesus praying to himself? Does God pray?"
.

lol. Now you are starting to really badger me for an answer. ABC. Isn't that just what Paper Turtle is trying to empahasis. That we need to be in a good setting, with a full belly, surrounded by loved ones, before the message of Christ can hit home. Why pick on me? You got lots of folk here who seem to tend to your needs better than I do. I am going to head off this morning to some farm and ranch properties and try to make some real estate money. Meantime, I will be thinking about you, Jesus, and Wendell. Maybe Pinky too, just on my breaks from showing property when they start asking the big ones. Yea that is when I think I will devote a little time to Pinky.

I am not saying this in anger. I'm simply calling it as I see it. Since you seem to think I have nothing of substance to say to any of God's children, how can I possibly have anything to say in response to your post? Therefore, I choose not to speak at all.

peace and love,
Paper Turtle

» Migisi - Prayer in His Name.

In response to Prayer in His Name. posted by HeadZenCards:

.
No doubt: Jesus-As-Written did not think he was the LORD GOD.
.
Imagine a new born-again Christian (like me, way back when) wrestling with the obvious contradiction between the malevolent OT God and benevolent NT Jesus/God.
.
One wonders why the benevolent Jesus would pray to the malevolent God and expect an answer.
.
Jesus said "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." (Matthew 21:22) Note he said you "will", not might. And note you'll receive "whatever" you ask for. So, how do we reconcile this:
.
In Gethsemane, we find Jesus suffering greatly, saying "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death." THREE times, he begs God to spare him. Now, Jesus certainly 'believed', so that couldn't have been the reason God ignored Jesus' prayers. I wonder what response believers expect when God wouldn't even answer his only son's prayers.
.
It appears to me the 'Father' gave his son a snake - when he asked for a fish (Matthew 7:9-11).

» HeadZenCards - Serious Question.

In response to Serious Question. posted by Migisi:

I agree with Brother Jones. Or am I wrong when I assert that his non-answer was that there was no Jesus and is no God, so your question is silly.

The real answer, of course, lies in the mystery of the Holy Goat. The Holy Goat is the mediator between the not-there Jesus and the anti-there God.

The Holy Goat stands in the spirit field and eats nothing but prayers all day. He is indifferent to their intent as they are only food to him.

May the ghosts of children killed by religious intolerance slaughter that goat. May its flesh feed them forever.
