- New Testament claims
I didn't say that people can't legitimately draw RELATED inspiration from the resurrection - like the one you cited. I didn't say that at all. What I said was that the APOSTLES and the New Testament authors and the first century Christians were absolutely CONVINCED that the resurrection was a real event.
Picture it this way. GW crossed the Delaware Christmas Night 1776 and defeated the Hessians. It's a real historical event. But, certainly - absolutely - people can draw allegorical or moral inspiration from the event. People can say that the event symbolizes snatching victory from the jaws of defeat - and they'd be right. But the event itself is still REAL.
You've heard the phrase: "Crossing the Rubicon" - and how it symbolizes people crossing a point of decision-making or action to which there is no return. Great phrase. Great symbol. But it's based on a TRUE event.
So, draw whatever allegory or symbol you want from the Resurrection - but don't lose sight of the reality and what it meant for the first century Christian church. THAT is the most important meaning.
