Resurrection.
.
Well, there is another way of seeing that as well.
.
I'm sure you, as a preacher, are aware of it.

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - New Testament claims

In response to New Testament claims posted by pink101:

People have come up with numerous ways of looking at the resurrection. But the writers of the New Testament and the apostles were emphatic that it was a PHYSICAL, LITERAL resurrection - and they built Christianity around it.

Later generations of Christian leaders and denominations began to assert that it was a spiritual or allegorical "resurrection," but that was not the first century Christian claim.

So the idea that a person can rise every time they fall is a non-sequitor in Christian teachings?

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - New Testament claims

In response to New Testament claims posted by pink101:

I didn't say that people can't legitimately draw RELATED inspiration from the resurrection - like the one you cited. I didn't say that at all. What I said was that the APOSTLES and the New Testament authors and the first century Christians were absolutely CONVINCED that the resurrection was a real event.

Picture it this way. GW crossed the Delaware Christmas Night 1776 and defeated the Hessians. It's a real historical event. But, certainly - absolutely - people can draw allegorical or moral inspiration from the event. People can say that the event symbolizes snatching victory from the jaws of defeat - and they'd be right. But the event itself is still REAL.

You've heard the phrase: "Crossing the Rubicon" - and how it symbolizes people crossing a point of decision-making or action to which there is no return. Great phrase. Great symbol. But it's based on a TRUE event.

So, draw whatever allegory or symbol you want from the Resurrection - but don't lose sight of the reality and what it meant for the first century Christian church. THAT is the most important meaning.

In the teaching of many Christian churches; but, not all by any means.

» redback - It's truly a shame

In response to It's truly a shame posted by BrianTubbs:

Hedzencards "...makes an outlandish claim that Cho is a Christian..." is similar IMO in its way to Evil's reasons why Cho couldn't possibly be a Christian. In context.

I think Boanerges is the wiser in his response. An ad nausiem repeat...I hate generalisations and labels and any 'them and us' approach. As I understood it, you asked me to be outraged against one poster not whether I had ANY problem with how you or others need to interpret his postings. Maybe my references to conundrum, sparrows and Job etc were too oblique for you...if you read my post at all.

I can't differentiate between what you refer to as a Christian and a 'True Believer in Christ' in the theory of it nor if I bumped into them in the street ie in their practices. But I can differentiate between my developing beliefs and those held by others (incl Hedzencards) whether they think them set in stone or wet concrete. happy

Although Ken Ham hails from OZ, I'd never heard of him at all until he was cited these pages. I don't recall responding to references to him at all for which you should really draw NO conclusions.

"It's truly sad. And, quite frankly, I just don't know what to say."

Maybe being hopeful has its burdens too?

I knew it would be only a matter of time...

Infamous Anti-Gay Group Plans To Picket Va. Tech Funerals
http://www.wbbm780.com/pages/373151.php?...
.
"...The Topeka, Kan.-based Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), which is not affiliated with any national Baptist organization, announced plans to protest at victims' funerals only hours after 32 people were killed in the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. They also may protest at other events on the Virginia Tech campus.
.
"The organization, founded and led by Fred Phelps, believes the United States has condemned itself to destruction by accepting homosexuality and other "sins of the flesh." Phelps' daughter, Shirley Phelps-Roper, said the Virginia Tech teachers and students who died on Monday brought their fate upon themselves by not being true Christians.
.
"The evidence is they were not Christian. God does not do that to his servants," Phelps-Roper said. "You don't need to look any further for evidence those people are in hell."..."
.
"Cho Seung-Hui, the Virginia Tech student responsible for the killings who took his own life after the shootings, was sent by God to punish those he killed, and America as a whole, for moral decline, said Phelps-Roper, while adding that she believes Cho is also in hell for violating God's commandment to not kill.
.
"He is in hell," Phelps-Roper said. "But he was also fulfilling the word of God."
.

» HeadZenCards - Finding God At VT

In response to Finding God At VT posted by BrianTubbs:

The Bible tells us many things. It is like a dictionary. We can pick and choose what words we like but there are antonyms in scripture also.

Our life here on the planet Earth is the only life our brains will ever know.

There is no comfort to those who lost friends or children due to earthquakes, tornadoes, or mass murder at Virginia Tech in the hollow promise of heaven, especially if they believe in an all-powerful, all-loving force that failed to do its job.
