I have a sneaking suspicion that this whole mess is going to blow up in someone's face. And, I think that someone is Al Sharpton.

» Migisi - Update

In response to Update posted by paper_turtle:

.
Imus's comments just happen to slam both women and blacks,...
.
Nothing new. Like Howard Stern, Imus and his obnoxious sidekick have a very long history of talking trash about EVERY minority... gays, Native Americans, Jews, Mexicans, women, blacks, the handicapped, etc.
.
CBS Evening News, ABC's World News failed to note Imus' history of racially charged insults
http://mediamatters.org/items/2007041100...
.
... but his comments are only symptomatic of the larger problem--intolerance and bullying disguised as news or entertainment.
.
In a nutshell, Paper. Seems to be profitable to be outrageously rude and crude. Substitute shock in lieu of real talent.

» pink101 - Nailed Him To A Cross

In response to Update posted by Migisi:
.
Think of the hundreds of thousands--maybe millions--of young children who live in stuffy rooms where that channel plays all day long. Think of how that is affecting their ideas of life. Think of how the little girls are having their minds molded. Is Imus the sacrifice who pays for our sins? Now that we've nailed him to a cross, can we get on with our sins against each other? Do we feel better that Imus pays the price?
.
"Oh," you say, "but, I never watched his show."
.
Okay, then you get to throw the first stone.

In response to Nailed Him To A Cross posted by pink101:

Pink, I agree. The rap culture, by and large, is doing great harm to our society. And it's not just a racial thing. I know of many white teenagers swept up in that dangerous nonsense.

And, Paper Turtle, you're right too that there are a lot of white male rich guys bankrolling this filth in order to make even more money. They pay little mind to the harm this music does, only how it fattens their wallets.

You would've been too young to know, but they said Elvis Presley and rock and roll in general was dangerous to society too.
.
Don't get me wrong. I can't stand rap or its culture. I'm not defending it. But what is it that attracts kids to it? There's where the problem lies.

» pink101 - Despicable

In response to Cultural Influence posted by Migisi:
.
There is a vast difference between Elvis and Rap. In fact, there is no comparison.
.
Rap music is almost 100 percent sub if not extra-cultural. Elvis may have been a mite riske'; but, he in no wise attacked main line culture the way Rap does.
.
I sincerely hope this mess blows up and I hope those corporations who support MTV and MTV 2 get wht they have coming to them and the sooner the better. It is despicable the way that drug infested subculture is encouraged to do so much damage to American society.
.
When the class wars were beginning to rage in 1914, the government decided it was time for a military conscription. I think we can see how the military draft will break the back of what's going on in America today.
