to see that Jesus came against a status quo.
What is that other than double talk?
Jesus Christ is for everyone not just the outsider who would stir rebellion. The status quo is usually those who have enough food and nice living quarters and power in the group to decide whether to extend God's mercies or defend their turf. You do a service at times to emphasize the stuggle that goes on within the classes, even of religious faith that claim some sort of higher ground. But you can't seem to recognize the struggle that goes on in the individual soul over whether a heart will be divided and priorities be given over to an amoral lifestyle. You don't seem to even notice that churches are in the business of extending the hope that God created us to be like Christ.

The central point of Jesus' teaching is that HE is the Messiah - that He is the Son of God come to "seek and to save that which is lost."

Yes, BUT: what was **lost**--at the time of Jesus--was the Jews of his era. The religion from which he had sprung had become completely derailed, mired in hypocrisy and legalism. He came to save his own people from those who were leading them astray.

- Pink, you are wrong
Pink, you are wrong on so many levels here. JESUS is the one who made the point about people being on their way to hell. READ JOHN CHAPTER THREE!!! Read what Jesus tells Nicodemus.
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
IN OTHER WORDS....the world is ALREADY condemned. People have already condemned themselves because of their SIN. Don't agree? Think I'm misinterpreting Christ?
19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Skipping down to...
36He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
It's very clear and simple, Pink. Jesus is saying that the world is already condemned for its sin and evil deeds. That the "wrath of God" already abides on the human race, BUT...
JESUS has come to "SAVE" the world, and NOT to "condemn" it. But if people don't lay hold to Jesus, then they are already condemned.
THAT is what JESUS is saying, Pink! Not what the PRIESTS say that Jesus is saying. It's what JESUS said!

- that which was lost
Paper Turtle, I think you've explained why Jesus went to the Jews first. Why he came to Judea and not Athens. But his message was, by the grace and will of God, spread throughout the entire earth.

Pink, you are wrong yet again. I can't speak for all the other evangelicals out there, but I preach about Jesus coming against the status quo - and I preach that frequently!
And you're wrong that evangelicals teach that people are worthless! I teach that our DEEDS are worthless in the sight of God, but then again that's what PAUL wrote: "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) And it's what Isaiah said: "All our righteousness are as filthy rags" (Isa 64:6) So...these teachings about our sins causing us to fall short of God's glory are CONSISTENT with Scripture.
However, this does not mean that WE as PEOPLE are worthless. God forbid that ANY preacher would EVER say that!!!!!!!!!!!!! If the Bible is clear on anything, it's clear that God LOVES us! Paul writes that God loved us "while we were yet sinners" (Romans 5:8) and Jesus told Nicodemus that "God so loved the world" which is why he (Jesus) was sent. (John 3:16)
So....we ARE valuable in the sight of God, but we are still sinners. And that's why Jesus was sent!
