The thread appears to have only so much water color left in it. Maybe if everyone was a poet by trade, we might get another couple of weeks. Probably time to bring out the bull and grab it by the tail and face the reality that very few want to dance all night in the fairy dust of this one.

Maybe another thread title would jump start a few tired posters. Here are my suggestions:

What Christians Believe
What Liberal Christians Believe
What Suite Liberal Christians Believe
What Lousy Faithless People We Have Become

Select your favorite from the above list and I will do the research and start such a thread.

I don't think it's a matter of participants being tired. More to the point, I think it has something to do with broad accusations being thrown around as though they were truth. We have had some of that recently.

Or maybe it has to do with the fact that Wendell has left the building?

Well it could be that my choices of a new thread are so totally much better than yours. We are trying to demonstrate to the world that we are grown up intellectual thinkers who don't pop each other with a towel everytime we drop trow in the locker room of talk. When I look at my own posts over the years, I see such a rarity of unseemly behavior that I am instantly inspired. Save for the unusual outbursts from me toward a paticular weaker vessel poster, I have behaved the part of a Southern Gentleman. But it is high time to reach out and find somebody that you have a little trouble with and give them some sort of a hug or slap on the knee. Maybe even an apology, if you can reread all my posts, and then try to figure if something you said has ticked me off.

As to Wendell. Mercy sakes. If everyone acted like him in these last several weeks, we would have earned another little of heavens stars. He has become an encourager in my book, and has done what the rest of us are trying to do....which is make some progress on being a little friendly in the area of religious discussion.

Back to the thread idea. I certainly have spent some time thinking about your choices and mine. Mine seem obviously better and would be better for us.

I heard a teacher of Kabbalah say something quite similar recently. He was connoting the idea that we are--as a civilization--coming to a place of maturity and that we are beginning to recognize how foolish and primitive some of our actions really are with religious groups warring against different religious groups and killing and maiming each other.

Can you articulate that one as a title for a discussion thread? Maybe we could begin to see our common interests are at stake?

Well, I'm not sure I am the most qualified here to be the chosen detective when it comes to bigotry in religion. I certainly hope that I am.

My first experience in the college classroom in World Religions didn't go very well for me. The Prof came in dressed in African Witch garb and spent the balance of an hour and a half relating personal experience he had in Africa. Most of it related to good, open, and honest talk about one of his best friends who happened to be the tribe witch doctor. He tried to make us understand that not everything that we had heard about some such people was true. That in the world, there are moments of time when ideas become like coined money. And on certain days, that money is in the form of a stranger who looks up into the heavens and tries to pull down an answer about why we would be thinking about eternity and not our next meal or next woman.

I remember going away from the class thinking that my religious professor had spent too much time in the bush and had become soft in the heart area. Day one belonged to him since the school chose him to teach me.
