No need to over dramatize that fact that we both miss the point about Jesus from time to time. Criticism is a good thing in most instances. You certainly have a good cause to try and nail some Preachers from time to time. But when a person starts using Jesus to further their own philisophical view on the world, then it is time to go back to who He was, what He said, and what He did. And you seem to avoid that at all costs. But I know the feeling, because there are days that I don't really want to be challenged by Jesus. It is much easier to go against a lighter opponent.

I am voicing one person's opinion.

Lord have mercy. You are involved in this one singular view and approach on the life of the greatest person who ever lived. Try to take this approach on the life of Gandhi, MLK, or Siddhartha Gautama and see if you find a true comparable. Lord have mercy. You drag others into this idea of yours, for the simple reason that you can focus on Jesus as being against whom they have already have chosen to hate in their own religious experience.
Lord have mercy.

Are you squirming again, Brother Jones?
.
There's an old Irish ditty where a priest is asking Dillon, "Are you digging it deep, Dillon, are you digging it deep?"
.
It looks like you are trying to get back into a different approach to what Jesus taught.
.
I think your point has been quite clearly that you believe that the choice is between Heaven and Hell--that all men deserve to spend eternity in Hell--but that through God's love and sacrifice of his son, Jesus (who by the way IS God), we can be saved so that we can spend eternity with Jesus in Heaven where we will exist in joy for ever and ever.
.
Sounds to me a little like the pie in the sky religions of the priesthoods from the beginning of record keeping.

Here we go again. Climb up on the bronc one more time. Your Jesus is more like you and me than God. lol. He is 100% Natural Man with all that implies. Maybe it took a couple of WineBuds in the afternoon before He got tanked up enough to go against those old bad priests. How much agape love do you think He had for the pharisees? Go for it. Let's hear from the Pink.

And then how much agape love have you got for the modern day Pharisees? This Pink Jesus that we are talking trash about and that you have developed over the years to be a snarling, mean-spirited, son of gun, that replicates what you would like to do with your enemies. And what is that?

What would you suggest religious folk do these days? What would make you happy, Pink?

There are examples of a few religious folk who came to Jesus. Maybe we should look again and see what happened. Could be He told them to relax, and toss a few Coors in the afternoon, and cut out all this devotion to God, that results in being their brothers keeper. Maybe so. Maybe He told them to relax their morality and experiment a little with their particular proclivities. That would be something, wouldn't it, if we saw something like that in scripture. Maybe He told them to get involved in politics and try to save some trees and plants out there in that desolate place called Jerusalem. But the bottom line really is that it really doesn't matter so much what He did or said to you or your folks. He may have been under the influence. He was under some influence. All natural to you.

Right, Pinky?

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Hell

Okay, we've got several different threads going in which we are essentially arguing the same issues. I'm going to address the issue of Hell here in this one, and not so much in the others. I don't want to be redundant. And, besides, I'm lazy. happy

Brother Jones has pegged me in that I do see hell as mysterious. I do base my knowledge and understanding of hell on what the Bible has to say. Pinky has me pegged on that. And the Bible does not give us a detailed description of it. So....for me to start describing it in detail would take me away from the clear teachings of Scripture and into the area of conjecture and speculation.

Even working WITH what the Bible says about hell, there are honest debates going on among Bible-believing Christians about what "fire" means. Is it a literal fire? Or is it a literary metaphor for the anguish that people will feel throughout eternity - their conscience "burning" for all their sinful deeds? Personally, I favor the literal interpretation, but I'm respectful of those who feel differently. I most certainly don't like to scare people with hell in my ministry. I believe we should treat hell with respect and I believe we should teach it - because Jesus taught about it. But I don't like scaring or manipulating people with it. I grew up in a church that did that, and I refuse to do so.

I try to emphasize the positive in my messages and in my ministry. Having peace with God in our life here and spending eternity with Him in the next. It means more when someone comes into a relationship with God because they want to spend time with God RATHER THAN coming to God because they want to escape hell.

However, Jesus refers to hell more than heaven in the Gospels. So, I think hell needs to be taught. It just needs to be done respectfully and sensitively. And that's why I'm being sensitive with the issue in these discussions. I hope you can appreciate that.

I wonder if you're as mixed up as you have shown yourself to be in your last post. That kinda makes you a likeable old cuss, Brother Jones--that you're human after all.
.
But, you got your wires crossed and I think you've gone off and short circuited yourself.
.
I don't see Jesus as mean spirited; although he got pretty nasty with the priesthood for how it set impossible barriers up between God and humanity and how their actions kept ordinary people from being able to have a one on one relationship with God because it made people filled with such a sense of guilt. YOU do that--you try to force people into believing they have no saving grace within themselves and that there is only one way through which people can ONLY EVER obtain a relationship with God.
.
You need to back off and reapproach the Gospel so that you get over your religious upbringing. Take a break. I am. Anyway, I've got to get ready to leave. I have an appointment with the cardiologist who put the stents in my heart on March the second.
.
Later.
.
Brian, I'll get back with you later too. happy

Now your talking something we have in common. I appreciate that you don't talk about health problems very much. It is a good sign of a positive heart. I have relatives who jump on me every time I see them to give a detailed report on what the Doctors are doing with me. lol.
