If you're asking me to describe Hell, all I can do is point to the Bible. And Dante's Inferno. happy After all, I've never been there.

In response to Belief in God, Belief in Hell posted by BrianTubbs:

If God gave us a choice, then that choice means NOTHING if the destination or outcome is the SAME for everyone, regardless of the choice or choices made.
.
How about the consequences we create--here in this life? These are also the result of free choice. We pay for our mistakes, in one way or another, as we live out our lives. It may not seem apparent that some pay, but they do.
.
And anything we do has consequences for others. This is also something we have to account for within our own lifetime, in one way or another.
.
doesn't seem like to me anyone's getting off scotfree.

peace and love,

It comes down to whether or not one believes that Hell is a manmade construct or whether it is something revealed to us by God. And a good indicator of where a person will come down on THAT question (see above) is whether or not they believe in God.

Simon is the new Chemistry writer over in Science & Nature. I tried to post a comment in one of his forums, but it wouldn't take. You all may want to try to say hi to him over there and lure him back to our fun discussions. Who wants to talk about water and chemicals when they can participate in OUR debates? happy

.
Me too. Most Jews I know don't believe in hell, or heaven, in any physical sense anyway. It's more of a living state of mind, not an afterlife.
.
I found this interesting: http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/view.j...
"The place where children were sacrificed to the god Moloch was originally in the "valley of the son of Hinnom," to the south of Jerusalem (Josh. xv. 8, passim; II Kings xxiii. 10; Jer. ii. 23; vii. 31-32; xix. 6, 13-14). For this reason the valley was deemed to be accursed, and "Gehenna" therefore soon became a figurative equivalent for "hell."

Here's a photo of hell -- Valley of Ge-Hinnom. http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/images...

So, Brian, you've never been shy in any other areas of definition. What is holding you back from giving us your understanding of Hell? The Bible is a big compendium of 66 books; so, saying you believe in what the Bible describes as Hell is a obfuscation. After all, wasn't Lot in Hell?
.
If we're talking about choices, just give us an idea of what Hell is like according to what you think it is.
.
Then, we can deal with that.
.
Okay?
.

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Biblical Teachings on Heaven and Hell

In response to So, Brian posted by pink101:

Pink, I'm not falling for your trap. It doesn't matter what Brian Tubbs says about Hell - except for you to have a target to shoot at. When people ask me to describe hell or heaven, I point to the Bible. Who am I to authoritatively describe places I have not yet been to?

Jesus speaks of hell as a place of fire and torment (Matthew 5:22, Mark 9:43, Luke 16:23 - to name just three references). In Matthew 13, Jesus speaks of a "fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

I have nothing to add to what Jesus says. That's his description of it. If you think that's barbaric or monstrous, your problem is with Jesus - not me.

Trap?
.

.
Which leads the reader to believe that the popular Gospel is not taught that spending eternity in Hell where there will be gnashing of teeth as sinners are punished for eternity in a firey furnace is the result of one's decision not to accept Jesus as their savior. Is it true that this is not taught in churches all across America?
.
Is that NOT a major part of the Gospel, Brian?
.
What's to fear with these questions? A trap? A trap for what?
.
