"We get stuck sometimes thinking about how God is going to work all this out and the timing of sending Jesus into the world to save us moderns."
I suspect the sticking point for some are the attempts to have passages within the Bible, with or without the best context, make more sense. There is a little "truism" that if something doesn't make sense, it's not true. I don't expect the Bible to be prescriptive. But then, God creates 'evil' seems a pretty global stand-alone declaration.
If there is any prescriptive content, maybe it rests with a definition of 'evil' and what punishment awaits evildoers. "Us moderns" may seriously question the monopoly of a creator of peace and evil for ALL, having fundamental conflicts of interest...unless it was ever intended that peace and evil happily co-exist...for all. But then, the unresolved issue lies within the Bible or its readers, not God.
"premarital sex was wrong because it might lead to dancing"
God gave me two left feet for a reason I guess ie dancing was never going to be a realistic option. ![]()
PS: 20 posts have came and gone since I was last here. After Paper Turtle's comments, who knows when next I visit. The age of 60 rapidly approaches and cancer surgery to my nose and a skin graft awaits me tomorrow.

What's the Bible? The Word of God or a Product of Man?
.
Like any other sacred text, it's a product of men. Conceived, written, transcribed, translated, collected, edited, and published by men. My conclusion.

Okay, thank you for the candid and direct answer. Do you rule out the possibility of God as an independent (meaning external to the human race) supernatural consciousness? If not, do you accept that it's at least theoretically possible that God (this supernatural, cosmic force with a consciousness that is DISTINCT from the human race) might be able and willing to COMMUNICATE with the human race?

Our hearts and prayers go with you as you go under the knife.

I appreciate your statement. I have not known the person who studies the bible intensely and who comes away from it unchanged. The bible will always have its critics who speak of it as one big problem in their life, instead of grasping and holding the man of love who came down to us.

You don't seem very interested in "grasping and holding the man of love who came down to us" except according to the way you expect everyone to interpret him according to your denominational views.
The bread that we take as His supper every week is just ordinary bread. What makes it so special is that we remember what He did.
Those who step outside the boundaries of the lines you draw are seen as unworthy to have a relationship with the Creator.
I didn't draw up any lines, Pinky. He either died for your sins or He didn't. You either worship Him or you don't. You join the rest of the modern historians of the world who regard Jesus as a rather light figure in history who was puffed by his handlers. It is your choice.

If God is separate from Man (external, independent), Man must then be able to exist independently of God. Is that possible?
.

.
The subject being the bible... do you think God communicated with the Jews exclusively? That God's communications can only be found in the canonized Judeo-Christian scriptures? Is it possible that God communicated with other people of the human race?
