First of all, and with all due respect, the word you wanted was extinction, not instinction.

With regard to Prohibition:
.
My first husband was an alcoholic, and one of my cousins died as a result of liver damage caused by alcoholism. I am well acquainted with the havoc alcohol can wreak in lives.

Still, I would not favor a return to Prohibition. Alcoholism--or any other addiction (e.g., drugs work, anger, or a host of other things)--is only the manifestation of a deeper problem: a disease of spirit. To cure the addiction, the spirit must be healed. 12-step programs are so effective because they work at healing the spirit. Enacting a law does not heal spirit.

peace and love,
