Thanks, Migisi.
.
You are good at researching for data and information.
.
Your post clarifies what I have been wanting to put across to Brian. It may have merely been a case of my misunderstanding what he was saying all along--I'm not sure.
.
There is a terrible thing that lawyers do to the law whenever it is to some power player's advantage.
.
For example, the so-called "charitable-trust" acts that are on the books in almost every state. They are definitely infringements on freedom of speech, of assocation, and of the press. But, they are put together in such a way and they represent the interests of such powerful forces that most lawyers just go along with these laws. It ends up being like Brian called it--you need to be able to interpret it correctly. And, that's when we get to find out what lawyers are all about.
.
Have you ever heard that a little yeast can soon take over the entire lump? I wonder what that means?

Good research, Migisi. Thanks.

Pink, I think our disagreement is more semantics. I think the Founders understood IN PRINCIPLE that "the press" meant more than a machine - that it in principle referred to the spread of information. Over the years, changes in technology and changes in laws have evolved the "press" into what is often called the "Fourth Estate." It HAS become institutionalized to a degree that it COULD be called its own special interest group.

But this is more a function of media outlets becoming Big Business than anything else. Small press outlets don't wield as much power and influence, although the Internet is rapidly changing the landscape.

It will be interesting to see what the "press" looks like 20 years from now. I think we are right now in the midst of tumultuous change, so it's hard to gauge it.

There is a famous Supreme Court case in which it was found that while there is freedome of speech and of the press, that cannot be used to rob a bank.
.
What's happening now is that the press is being used to defraud the people of the United States of America.
.
The right attornies and the right strategy and the suspected violators will be exposed, indicted and tried.

If your point is that the media has abused its constitutional rights and that the power of the "press" has expanded beyond what the Founders envisioned, you'll get no argument from me.

Well, my point probably gets into the idea that corporations have pushed their identity to the level where many people now see them as being almost citizens with Constitutional rights and, further, that they have done this using and abusing the press all the time claiming some vague idea that they are merely exhibiting an American right that everyone enjoys.
.
The power of the press has become the propensity of media moguls to allow lies to be spread thick. And, the freedom of the press belongs to the man who owns one, right?
.
What American citizens sorely need to be doing is raising Cain until we get our hands back on the airways so we can get limits regarding corporate ownership.

I was politically active BEFORE I felt God calling me into pastoral ministry. I don't see myself going back.

I think just the opposite is occuring for many in our country.

They have left the calling of God for politics. And at least on one side of the aisle, there is a mood of not only indifference about hearing from God, but the idea that uncertainty is the future byword for our children. They are to be raised uncertain of our origins and neutral when it comes to whether or not America has a destiny. They can't really avoid the result of history that those who doubt even their own doubt cannot bring themselves to love the masses of men, or be leaders of men. It becomes a sign to those who love God, that those who claim a place in politics and religion, but make a testimony of not hearing God or not caring one way or the other if they hear God, but assume they are like the beasts of the field in every way.

i am just an oldtimer for the Lord.

In response to Shield law posted by pink101:

Have you ever heard that a little yeast can soon take over the entire lump? I wonder what that means?
.

In Jesus' time the kind of bread we eat today was usually made in the way we make sourdough bread today. A breadmaker had a "starter" which was a yeast culture created through fermentation of flour with water and perhaps a bit of honey. When he/she wanted to make a fresh loaf of bread he took a bit of this starter and mixed it with flour, water, and other ingredients.
.
Its important to add just the right amount of yeast to the mixture. If you add too much, the yeast will overferment and produce a loaf full of huge air holes. Sometimes it will collapse in on itself because the gluten in the flour can't stretch far enough to support the weight of the other ingredients. The bread from such a loaf is definitely not pleasant to eat.
.
Hence, the right amount of leaven/yeast within a person/group will form a cohesive whole which will be pleasant and will support life. Too much yeast produces unstable conditions which do not support life.
.
I think its interesting that in making a loaf of bread which looks and tastes good, sugar and salt are very important. Sugar feeds the yeast and helps it rise. Salt regulates the yeast so it doesn't rise too much. Sweetness and saltiness in human conduct have similar effects in people. ;-)
.
peace and love,
Paper Turtle

Yupper.
.
That is why the Jewish celebration of Passover (Peseach) puts an emphasis on unleavened bread.
.
Did you know that they have to get rid of every crumb of leavened bread from their homes? They use large feathers to sweep the crumbs out from the cracks and crevases where they may have fallen. Every crumb has to go. Then, they break Matzoh and eat that during the ten day celebration.
.
What is the significance? That man is like leavened bread--all puffed up and not like the Creator intended. So, Jews are reminded to get rid of all their puffery in their life relationships.

Yuppers. When I was attending UVM one of my best friends was the daughter of a rabbi. I was honored to be invited to celebrate Passover with them. happy

I like your interpretation, but I was told that the bread is unleavened because they had to leave in a hurry--and travel light. They didn't have time to gather up things. Leavened bread was sometimes made on a board (really a very shallow bowl) which had a place to store the starter. This would have been heavy, and would have taken up a lot of space in a pack.
