I won't be looking for quotes. Rather, my focus will be on the doctrinaire appraoches toward teaching dominionist ideologies that include turning our American democracy over to a theocracic form of government. I'm not sure; but, I think many will give their full hearted approval to such a turn of events.

Okay, do your job and try to bring a little research into the mix that isn't simply liberal ranting and raving of heated up meetings of the folk who think the same way you think and never get challenged or face any questions as to why they have abandoned the library and honest historical learning for internet studies by those who take baths in their own homemade honey.

Pink,

Why don't you start a new thread with your charge that the Christian Right is out to start a theocracy in America? Would help focus the discussion.

When intelligent people with habits that have led them to succussful social pursuits engage the public in some such goal that might otherwise be seen as against the best interests of the overall society, they seldom show their cards and keep them, instead, close to their vest. That doesn't say anyting other than to point out that sometimes it's a good idea to not put all your cards on the table at once for all to see including your enemies or potential opposition.
.
Generally, what goes on in America's churches is thought of as no one's business other than the members involved in what ever is taught and preached. So, the general public pays little or no attention at all to sermons and teachings regarding church doctrine and any dogma that may be involved.
.
The first thing I would like to bring up here is the ideas involved in teh Reconstructionist teachings that have become so prevalent here in the recent past.
.
It's time for you to say anyting on this subject regarding that which you think should be on our minds as we pursue this line of reasoning.

:)

Brian. I'm thinking we're pursuing the idea of evil that is being overlooked by large groups of people in America. So, I think we are in the correct thread; but, yoru idea might be good for a side thread on the subject matter here.

» pink101 - Dominionism--Laying the Foundation

.
It is important to lay down the foundation regarding this challenge Brother Jones has given me regarding such men as the Reverends Falwell and Dobson.
.
I think the site in Widipedia is a good place to begin. Here is the opening paragraph:
.
From Wikipedia
"Dominionism is a trend in Protestant Christian evangelicalism and fundamentalism, primarily, though not exclusively, in the United States, that seeks to establish specific political policies based on religious beliefs.
It is most often used to describe politically active conservative Christians with a specific agenda. The term is rarely used as a self-description; many feel it is a loaded or pejorative term, and use of the term is primarily limited to critics of the Christian Right.
.
"The term emerged in relation to the Christian Right in the mid-1990s, but became more widely known due in large part to the U.S. presidential election, 2004 where the media attributed Republican wins to Evangelical voters in Red states who voted for moral values.[1] A number of authors, among them Andrew Sullivan, use the terms Christianism or Christianist in place of Dominionism in an attempt to 'take back the word Christian (from) the religious right.'[2]"
.
End of Quotation
---------------------------------------
.
Here is the link where the entire article can be read:

All one has to do is type "American theocracy" in their search engine. It would save rewriting what's already been written on the subject. There's a lot... online ~and~ at the library (if one contends that ink on paper makes the contents more credible).

I guess it sort of excites the emotional trigger of many folk when they consider that some segments of American society feel that their place at the political trough is needed enough that they would form a para group organization. It is somewhat unique to think of old timey folk like a Ma or Pa Kettle suddenly sharpening their knives and buying AK47 rifles to descend upon Washington sometime in the next few years. We haven't gotten around to mentioning that certain persons' name who wanted to kill all the babies and gas his opponents, yet.

It seems like the first step in a return to the Theocracy of Old Testament days would be to pick a religion and pick a Leader of such a religion to follow. Does any of the material that you have found on the internet or in the library designate which religion would be first in line to storm the White House and is there any particular person in your lineup on the regularly mentioned list that seems to dominate the field?

Maybe Magisi has done some research on this area since she has read the above mentioned material.

Does it mention any particular person who stands ready to oppose the Republic?

Listen up, Old Timer.
.
We are clearly and definitely focusing in on the Christian Right and you know it; so, why do you attempt to create any confusion here?
.
We are not considering some nut group in the suburbs of Waco or some group of a few hundred who have run off to South America to commit mass suicide. Don't try to change the focus.
.
If you fail to accept the fact that men like Falwell, Kennedy, Dobson, and Hagee are calling for their followers to put political pressure on their elected officials and if you think the end result of that pressure is not to take over the halls of Congress and the offices of the Presidency and the highest court of the land, then you are acting just like I suggested earlier--like the silent Christians of 1930s Germany who sat by and allowed Hitler become a dictator that led Germany into its racist expansionism.
.
Have you heard the call to reclaim America for Christ?
.
And are you familiar with this little gem?

I'm simply attempting to find out where and how you get this kind of information and thinking. You have your own specific terminology in place that does not accurately describe what is going on in our country. Again with your list. These men do not have followers. You deliberately confuse the issue and then you list cults who did have followers.

Okay, describe what you so often and so generally brand people with your whitewash as 'followers.' Those folks who happen to be the audience of these men would be shocked to hear your description of them.

who sat by and allowed Hitler become a dictator that led Germany into its racist expansionism.

Alright, here we go again with the Hitler stuff. Watch out Billy Graham. Here they come.

Can't you at least spend a calm day and consider that ranting and railing is the worst form of debate. Maybe if you actually started with John Hagee, you could find some agreement in this online group that some Americans are sheeplike in San Antonio, but that is hardly a significant movement. It would also be a learning experience for you and your followers to actually study a case in a specific which so far you have failed to quote anyone or provide a single detail.
I did take a look at the little gem you provided. I couldn't find my name listed in support or any of the others except James Kennedy. Maybe you should target him for what he signed in 1986. See if anyone claims to follow Kennedy. lol.

Some of this stuff is just silly, Pinky.

There's no debate here. I'm merely responding to your request. If you want me to stop, I will. The "manifesto" I referenced proves my point beyond a shadow of a doubt. I fail to see the evidence of your accusation of ranting and railing. But, what else is new, right? Pour it on, Old Timer.
.
Rant:
.
# noun: a loud bombastic declamation expressed with strong emotion
# noun: pompous or pretentious talk or writing
# verb: talk in a noisy, excited, or declamatory manner
.
and to rail is to complain bitterly.
.
It appears you've got me confused with the man in your mirror. happy

Have you forgotten? I'm responding to your request about Falwell and Dobson.

If you want me to reply to your request you are going to have to be reasonable. For you to say that Falwell and Dobson do not have followers is a rediculous misrepresentation of the facts of the matter. If the people who dutifully send in their big bucks to these preachers and teachers are not their followers.then, tell us who they are.
.
Can you handle truth or what?
