Pursuing an assailent is not an act of violence.

It sounds like it would be easy as eating pie to hear you talk about chasing after a thief or rapists. I sort of imagine that any who would admit to being a pacifists would have to serve the police as a clerk.

I have known some great cops who could easily have been considered pacifists.

And, I have know some great cops who could never be considered such.

Sorta like the people who live next door.

I didn't serve in law enforcement as a clerk. You'd be surprised, Jones. Many serve BECAUSE they abhor violence, and they actively work to stop it.

I'm not sure what I could have said that would cause you to respond that I believe so much differently than you on this subject. When somebody chases down a culprit in law enforcement, I suppose they have to be ready for just about anything to happen. It is just that when one of our friends commits to pacificism I think we all worry a bit for the person and we wonder at what length that pacificism would go, but you have no problem with me on this. I haven't fired a gun, or taken a swing at somebody in a long time. lol. Hopefully, I would remember my Savior if I got into a situation where a little non-passive behavior was needed.

» pink101 - Religion In Politics

.
Those of us who are old enough to remember the huge emphasis on the Silent Majority that was hyped by the Religious Right know that there was an all out attempt to put the "Church" front and center in the control of our government. I don't see how anyone can dispute that. The attempted putsch was made obvious in about 1978 or so. Documentation is available regarding the purposeful drive that has done nothing but accelerate since then. It has all but been accomplished.
.
Here, in this discussion, we see some of the results of that attempted Putsch. Many Americans are made ready for it. I believe there is a large group of Americans who would willingly go to war against other Americans in an attempt to overthrow our Constitution for their religious interests.
.
I saw photographic portraits of two Southron Democrats on television this morning. Appartently the photographs were posed for the purpose of distribution back home for their loyal supporters. In each portrait there was a Stars and Bars flag draped in the background. What a vulgar, disgusting, and reprehensible expression of anti-Americanism. And, these men--each of them--have taken the oath of office to defend the Constitution against all enemies, domestic and foreigh. These two Democrats voted with the Republicans yesterday in opposition to the Democrats..
.
I hope we are seeing the dying gasps of this blotch of repugnancy on American politics and on our honor as a People.
.

Do you mean that you'd worry that he'd allow himself to be arrested, slapped, beaten, whipped, and nailed to a cross to die?

I believe we all would shed a tear to see some innocent person slain by evil folk.

Everyone of us agrees that some kind of push back is involved with standing up against evil...even thieves don't like to be ripped off by other thieves.

But we disagree often on whether Jesus (God in the flesh) should have turned over the Temple Tables or whether He should have allowed Peter to cut off one man's ear. But we make a mistake, I think, when we put on our own robes of justice and we try to 'judge' God for not doing enough at events like the Jewish holocaust or we think He does too much like the justice served on Annanias and Saphira in Acts 5. God is God, and we sometimes will not be able to totally understand why He spares some and destroys others.

Scripture indicates that evil is found in the heart of man. It is in your heart and my heart.
