» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - David

David emailed me and told me that Suite "fired" him. I have been given no explanation of this by the folks at Suite. The articles of his that I read were (in my opinion) excellent.

In response to The article posted by Migisi:

I have very limited management control of the Protestantism section. The format and set-up is all handled by the higher-ups at Suite as is the management of guest articles (or, as they are now called, Contributing Writers). I am responsible for writing articles, blog posts, and contributing to the discussions.

In response to Topic control posted by BrianTubbs:

You may notice that my articles have been deleted from suite. I received an email from the editor-in-chief saying that she had deleted my Bible articles because:

while I think we can grant some leniency for Mind & Soul topics that
declare their interest or "bias" in the title and assume they are
speaking to people who share these views, I'd like to avoid
sermonizing instead of keeping readers abreast of the issues related
to the faith and the institutions that embody that faith. Biblical
interpretation is a thorny area and best left for the church
sanctuary and off the site.

If my articles were sermonizing it makes it very difficult for any contributing writers to write here. My articles in other sections are fine by the way,so I'm not "sacked"!

I will be posting more articles here, just trying to avoid preachiness - we'll see how long they stay here.
The Bible is so important to me that sometimes I get enthusiastic when I write about it - that obviously has no place here - we are just looking for information.

This may sound paranoid but I also wonder whether the same criteria apply to other sections of Mind & Soul - I'll be checking!

What a farce!
.
This is the kind of thinking that comes out of a society where there is no separation of church and state. The problem here is that we are a mixture of various societies and under the rules of a company incorporated in a nation (Canada) not having the same rights and freedoms that people in the United States experience.
.
Here, in the United States of America, we don't go for that kind of gobble-de-gook--not having come to the extreme level of political correctness that exists in Canada as yet. Hopefully we never will. We think that ordinary people have every right to discuss whatever subject that is on our mind--like it or not. Maybe we get a little raucous at times; but, so what? That's how we put authority in its place--which hasn't always been dug as yet.
.
We can be a disrespectful bunch.

So, feature and contributing writers are to submit instructional material only, from what I gather from their response. Writers must remain neutral in their opinions and positions on their subjects, correct? I wonder how neutrality is even possible when expressing the concepts of spirituality and faith?
.
Simple enough. Create a discussion thread and post your article in that thread to kick off discussion. Will they delete a thread because you've express your ideas? Sharing ideas is the very purpose of discussion threads.
.

Check the articles in the Catholicism topic.

In other words, are you saying that it is apparent that Surtleff is free to come back as participant; but, that he cannot be seen as a representative of Suite101.com.
.
If so, are you being extra kind?

.
Absolutely. I'd hate to lose these fine contributors. It appears to me that 'participants' enjoy more freedom of expression than feature/contributing writers do. I might not agree with everything they believe, but so what. IMO, they should be able to express their views, just like you and I do.
.
Management has determined that they don't like their writing style, and don't want them representing Suite. Okay then. That's their decision. If we don't like it, we're free to leave Suite, right? Rejecting their articles doesn't mean these writers can not be participants here and contribute to discussions - if they want to.

So you didn't see anything objectionable about the fact that I reinserted Surtleff's article into the thread?
.
Question: Couldn't Suite101.com management take care of the situation with a stopel of some sort--you know a caveat Emptor?
