I saw the ad again... a tiny implantable heart starter. Heart stops - the defibber zaps it. We'll live forever with bio-brain and battery-operated heart. No thanks. Put me in the ground for the worms.

Well sooner or later you'd have to stop working anyway. It's like a car with a good motor but a rusty body. It may have the 'ability' to drive but it won't drive long because it has no structural rigidity.

After all if heart disease or cancer don't kill you... gravity will. (seriously)

A lil' bondo, a good primer, a paint job, and ta-dah... just like new. That's what the body parts-changers and plastic surgeons are for. Mega-doses of calcium suppliments to rebuild the weak frame. We can work forever. But who wants to?

Interesting play on the analogy... Cosmetically we would be able to 'make it' even if we did all start to look like Michael Jackson... I wonder if the cells in our body could actually continue to work... either way, I also agree, who wants to?

If you are one of those who gambles on the stock market, you cannot do better than make investments in bio-technology.
.
It's the thrust of the future. Bodies that look exactly like yours did when you were in your late twenties; but, made out of some substance that holds its strength, firmness, and appearance for thousands of years. If it is cut or hurt in an accident, it can reconstruct itself just like new again. It's a bio-tech body. The brain that you have in your body now, could be in that being. It won't grow old and it won't be attacked by disease.

For some, I think there comes a point after a long life when death is okay and even desired. Suffering aside, when everyone you knew and loved is dead and buried, there's a strong desire to join them in the afterlife (if you believe in it).

» Migisi - Brian -- Wiccans win

.
Eons ago, you mentioned the military's refusal to acknowledge the Wiccan religion. Just FYI...
.
Wiccan War Widows Win Their Sacred Burial Markers
http://www.womensenews.org/article.cfm/d...
.
"Wiccan war widows have prevailed in a 10-year struggle to have the VA accept their religion's pentacle as a headstone symbol in U.S. military cemeteries..."
.
"The settlement agreement ends a lawsuit filed in November that charged that denying the pentacle grave marker was unconstitutional on grounds of religious freedom. A separate but similar case, filed by the New York-based American Civil Liberties Union, was also resolved by the settlement.
.
"This settlement has forced the Bush administration into acknowledging that there are no second-class religions in America, including among our nation's veterans," said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. "It is a proud day for religious freedom in the United States."

I am happy to see that the Wiccans won this long fought battle. They have every bit the same rights as do the Christians, Jews, and Muslims. And, they are just as credible if nmot more so.

» Brother_Jones - Liberals really aren't very ready for the Heaven experience.

In response to Bio-Tech posted by Migisi:

when everyone you knew and loved is dead and buried, there's a strong desire to join them in the afterlife (if you believe in it).

I think a portion of the problem with the Liberal view of heaven is a practical one. Having spent little or no time in prayer, worship, study of scripture, sharing, and fellowship that there is an almost empty headed notion of what purpose heaven might be. It doesn't have much of anything to do with Jesus because most Liberals don't count Him as important enough to spend a year contemplating His message, much less an eternity in His presence. So it comes down to the idea that heaven for Liberals is spending some time with their bridge buddies or bowling pals and that could get a little old. So just going to sleep and never having to worry about stuff becomes the Liberal heaven. I think I have described it pretty well. Maybe.

Have you got any ideas about what you might want out of heaven?

i am just an oldtimer for the Lord.
