About a handful of men own all media that humans produce; film, magazine, papers, TV, billboard, etc.. etc..
The Last true free source is the Internet.. but alas, its purpose is about achieved.. To bring together all people into one location... ie; via their TV screens or Monitors.. Im guessing that everything will eventually come into the TV, including the Phone...

Soon we will all have a computer chip in our brains that will make the TV screen and computer monitor obsolete.

Wow, this thread took off since I last saw it. Anyway, responding to this now long-ago post...
I actually am in large agreement with you, PT. You're absolutely right that men wanted to keep politics a "boys' club" and resisted women coming in for that reason. You're also right that domestic abuse contributed to the rise of the women's movement. I think alcoholism, though, was inextricably intertwined WITH that abuse.
And I wasn't saying or implying that we would see mention of abuse in the letters of our Founding Fathers and Mothers if abuse took place. What I'm saying is that the letters indicate the kind of give-and-take and the kind of sentiment that one would see in a healthy marriage (with the caveat that 18th century language was more formal than today's).
Before you say it, I also know that some couples may appear romantic, sentimental, and 'healthy' on the surface, while on the inside, a different and darker reality is present. I understand that.
My point is simply this...
Let's not assume (and I don't think you are) that a majority of the marriages of the 1700s and 1800s were abusive and/or unhealthy.

How long does it take to be accepted as an American? Murdoch got US citizenship in September 1985.
AND we don't want him back as he gave up his country for money. I mean, he hardly went over there to be value-added to the American way of life??
