Read Migs response to you up above.

You, like me and others, were born into a wealth billions have never known and will not know. Even so, you can lose whatever advantage you now have--in a heartbeat.
.
Pioneers and forefathers? How about union organizers, socialists, and communists and just plain hard working lugs who never had enough time on their hands to think about the common pleasures we take for granted. Men who started working when they were children and who continued throughout their adult life to work six twelve hour work days a week and got drunk on Saturday night. What about their children? What about the man who went to prison for producing a movie about the Spirit of '76 during World War I because it was seen as aiding and abetting the enemy? What about the race riots that broke out in 1917 and the Red Summer of 1919? What about the lynching of a protester wrapped in an American flag? What about the labor massacre in Chicago? What do you know about those events? Anything at all?

The leading cause of mental illness in the world is drug useage.
.
I beg to differ. My former brother-in-law never took drugs, but he has been afflicted with mental illness since his teens. My daughter never took drugs, and she has bipolar disorder. My son had a classmate who committed suicide at the age of 12, and he never took drugs. I could go on and on.
.
Instead, people often take drugs in an attempt to self-medicate. They sense something's not quite right and drugs make them feel better.
.
I am again not trying to be offensive but I wonder what circumstances surrounded this young womans demise to homelessness.
.
She wasn't young. She was probably in her 40's. She said it was because of her mental ilness. She couldn't keep a job, couldn't manage her money.
.
peace and love,

I didn't say all... but I would like to point out that caffeine is a drug as well and contributes HEAVILY to bi-polar disorders ability to develop and continue. So does white sugar but alot harder to plug into the 'drug' category.

My daughter never drank coffee. She was brought up in a home with no white sugar, and no salt, either. (She continues this tradition.) I have always cooked everything from scratch (no additives of any kind). A few years ago, I became a vegetarian and I've never felt better. I must confess, though, I will never give up my morning coffee. LOL

There is a lot of truth in that idea. For example, Social Security has made it possible for millions of Americans to retire with dignity and in such a way that they are able to continue to contribute to the economy. That "welfare" represents a leg of stability in our economy as will universal health care when it is instituted. Unemployment insurane that pays partial wages when a worker is out of work also provides such a let of stability for our mutual benefit. These two "welfare benefits" were won through hard struggles from the working class. What do you know, for example, of the horrors of the Triangle Shirt Factory where doors were locked to keep the workers from leaving their work stations? And what about the constant threat workers are more and more finding themselves under that they can easily be replaced? Do you understand that illegal immigrants are little more than slave labor?
.
Now I am ready for the reason you mentioned it to begin with.
.
Which was?

I have not heard of the Tirnagle factory? I am intrigued though. share please! =)

As for welfare and national health care are concerned, there may be a place for it but mandating it is a bad idea because ultimately it takes away my ability to do it for myself.

I am not socialist and don't ever want to be. I do believe that people should help each other but don't think that allowiong the government to regulate everything is a good idea. We as the citizens should be regulating the government and the businesses.

I think a good questions is: why do we allow the government and big business to control us?
