Most welfare recipients I know are poor divorced women with kids, and Daddy won't help with support. It's hard for some men to understand the need, and how humiliating it can be to be on government assistance. I hear ya, Paper. Been there.

Thanks, Migs. happy

The way the economy is these days, a single person is REALLY squeezed. It takes a couple working two jobs to even just barely scrape by.

I'm not necessarily going to challenge that, PT. I support government assistance for the poor and disadvantaged. And I'm not holding out the fact of systemic abuse to undermine the need for such a system of assistance. I'm conservative in that I think many of our government's efforts over the years to help the poor have backfired or not been the most efficient, BUT this doesn't mean I'm against the government trying to help. I think it should. In fact, I think it must.

I'm going to have to address your desire for a 'definition' but I honestly don't have an answer... it seems to be more of an idea than a definition.?.?.?

Sorry... I just don't know the answer... but I do know that it's not perfectly attainable... SO I just live as free as I can.

Well, let me suggest that, as an American citizen, you have an obligation to know and understand the meaning of the words, freedom, and, liberty.

I've provided a thread for you.

In response to Defending the USA posted by Migisi:

So was my Mom... for 3 months and then she got a decent job. She never used drugs, alcohol, tobacco, had cable TV, or drove a car that cost her more than a few thousand dollars either.

Today she drives a new car, has a small apartment, steady income making low 30K a year, 401K, etc.... She did her job.

She planned and survived. Reliance on government support is not a good idea.

Not all people are weak but having kids with a moron who'd leave you is stupid by itself. Kids have to live on welfare because parents are idiots and procreated with deadbeats.
The government should spend more time getting money from dead beats and less time taking it from ME, a hardworking father who truly loves his children and wife enough that he daily perseveres to get the hell out of bed and provide!

Let me apologize for heading back one step (no rabbit hole intended) but I do not define myself as an 'American'. I am a citizen of only one nation and that nation does not exist in this world!

That nation is truly free.

I am a bypasser in this world and don't care to sign allegiance to nations that crumble.

Don't tie progress for women's rights and opportunities to communism and socialism, certainly not in the United States. That's the biggest bunch of nonsense I've ever heard - if indeed that's what you're saying.
