Yes, we have both died for each other's sins.
But we're born again every morning, at least until they cart us away.
This is the Lord that the day has made. Let us live and rejoice in it.

"Not everyone has had a chance to comment on Eccl 5:1-6.
Paper Turtle: Apart from the summary comments in my post 507 above re these verses...I'm thinking maybe there IS an attempt to get us to learn patience. I may very well be 'cross contaminating' this with comments you've made along the way. The source escapes me at the moment but I cited a Bible passage in this topic (or another?) something loosely along the lines 'we learn when we are ready'. My translation: the teacher tells us more when he thinks we're ready and have a need to know.
Kinda like a technique some use here. ABC.
In my previous life, I well knew the calculated risk in reading the conclusion first then the argument. The need to independently draw one's own conclusions, avoid bias etc. But there's a danger when the story doesn't get to a point or purpose before the MOMENT is lost. I'm told best advice is not to read the Bible cover to cover and I suspect that applies to each of its Books as well.
Tonight, I was walking home and stopped at a pedestrian crossing. The 'walk' sign appeared and for some unknown reason...a senior's moment?...I paused. A second later, a car went through the lights at very high speed. I'm reliably informed by Boanerges that 'what-ifs' don't exist. So, I don't give this a moment's thought not.

I don't find one main 'point' in Ecclesiates, but many points to ponder.
.
But I'm okay with anyone posting whatever verses they wish. There is repetition in this book which we could skip over if folks wanted to.

Is the wall test why you have a redback?
Rejoice and be glad for your senior moments. I'm glad that coincidence was in your favor at that crossing.
Just as I'm writing this, my boss' power went out! Does this prove that the Lord Krishna is the greatest or what?

And so do I as my posts try to reflect. You're talking to someone who reads subtitles during serious foreign films. The MOMENT I refer to here and in a topic "over there", is mine. It's the time when I'm reading a tortuous book in real time or awatching a film...when I walk out mid sentence. Sometimes people feel the need to tell me things quite a few times...other times I seek it.
There are 2 stories presented here...within Ecclesiastes and within this topic. Both set a pace THEY feel comfortable with. ![]()

1 I have seen another evil under the sun, and it weighs heavily on men: 2 God gives a man wealth, possessions and honor, so that he lacks nothing his heart desires, but God does not enable him to enjoy them, and a stranger enjoys them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.
3 A man may have a hundred children and live many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he cannot enjoy his prosperity and does not receive proper burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he. 4 It comes without meaning, it departs in darkness, and in darkness its name is shrouded. 5 Though it never saw the sun or knew anything, it has more rest than does that man- 6 even if he lives a thousand years twice over but fails to enjoy his prosperity. Do not all go to the same place?
7 All man's efforts are for his mouth,
yet his appetite is never satisfied.
8 What advantage has a wise man
over a fool?
What does a poor man gain
by knowing how to conduct himself before others?
9 Better what the eye sees
than the roving of the appetite.
This too is meaningless,
a chasing after the wind.
10 Whatever exists has already been named,
and what man is has been known;
no man can contend
with one who is stronger than he.
11 The more the words,
the less the meaning,
and how does that profit anyone?
12 For who knows what is good for a man in life, during the few and meaningless days he passes through like a shadow? Who can tell him what will happen under the sun after he is gone?

Hey Oliver and all.
Ecclesiastes is the greatest philosophical book ever written. It "cuts to the chase" by recognizing the vanity, or "meaninglessness" of life (and everything in it) if you take God out of the picture. Just as some of Nietzsche's observations seem depressing, so do Solomon's; but they are, in my opinion, true if God is not a factor.
All is meaningless if there is no God.
