I think that the newer history books are leaning toward the direction of bringing the societal movements into view. George Washington is still seen as the "father" of our country; but, the writers are beginning to include the local snipets. (If that's the right word). And so, readers will see the important part the people play which gives them impetus to take an active role in their society. You don't have to be president to make a difference?
