» pink101 - Prohibition Against the Government

.
History channel did a bit on the Bill of Rights this morning pointing out there were actually twelve articles rather than only the ten that passed.
.
And, the narator pointed out that the articles were more about prhohibitions against the government than they were a list of rights.
.
It might be said that the Rights involved are the perogative of the People to dictate to government rather than the other way around.

» pink101 - Tenth Amendment

.
An 'interesting' thing about the Tenth Amendment, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved for the States respectively, or to the people.", is that it provides a window for the states to challenge the authority of the U.S. Constitution. That's how we come up with so-called "States Rights" issues in politics.
.
If you're indicted under a state statute you believe to be in conflict with your rights as an American citizen, you are unable to appeal directly to those rights. You must first gain access to the U.S. Constitution through what can be costly procedures. It's what is called, "Making a federal case" of a matter. So, states can and do have unlawful acts on their books that can be used by unethically agressive prosecutors to harrass and or convict citizens who might not be able to afford competent counsel.
.
What does the apostle Paul say about law when he compares it to yeast?
.
And, so it behooves every American citizen to be as knowledgeable as they possibly can be about their U.S. Constitutional rights. Too bad the Constitution is not a required subject in our K-12 system of educaiton. It should be.
.
Today marks a glorious day for humanity in American history.

It's not even a required subject at some law schools. There are actually LAWYERS graduating from law schools who have never read the Constitution word-for-word all the way through. Shameful.

» pink101 - Constitution

In response to Constitution posted by BrianTubbs:
.
Some years ago and for several years, I produced community action events designed to create improved relationships betweent he people and their police officers. We included an annual magazine type publication and a festival like field day with police officers in uniform. To finance the events, we sold admission tickets to the field day, advertsing in the publication we called, The Bride, and sold booth space to local businesses to get them involved. We also provided free exhibit spaces to churches and schools. One year we included the Constitution. We usually printed and distributed between 2,500 and 5,000 copies throughout the community. Depending on the weather, we were able to get crowds up to 7 or 8 thousand people.
.
Our purposes were to, 1. to improve relations between the people and their police, and; 2. to build respect for the law through understanding. We also produce a one day festival where local community members were brought together for a fun and entertaining day that feature local police officers in uniform to meet and greet the people. We sponsored essay contests for school children.
.
Our efforts were almost completely ignored by so-called community leaders. In fact the "city fathers" usually gave us a rough time. You wouldn't believe the problems we had with various authority groups.
