» EvilChihuahua - Hatred

In response to Hatred posted by BrianTubbs:

There's little doubt that Jesus Christ would love homosexuals and heterosexuals alike.

Jesus had 2 Commandments: Love and Honour God, and Love and Respect mankind.

There's also no doubt that there are many people today who hate others who are different - and that hatred extends into sexuality.

Sadly that's true. We've done a lot to reduce hatred towards other races, but haven't done enough to reduce hatred towards people of other sexualities, religions, creeds and phychical and/or mental disabilities.

I would like to suggest, however, that I think that the word "hate" is thrown around much too freely today.

I don't agree that Homosexuality is a moral thing, but I don't hate homosexuals, and yet because of my views on homosexuality I've been accused of "hating" them. To me, hating someone is showing them no respect at all, no love and no honour. I can see past one's sexuallity to see the person for who they are. I have a lot of respect for homosexuals, so I can hardly be accused of hate.

Sadly, there are some "Christians" out there who can't see past that, and treat non-Christians like they are lower forms of life. That is hatred.

There are also so-called Christians who treat those of other Christian faiths badly.

Actually, I have a question for Brian or anyone else who can answer it: Does it categoricallly state anywhere in the New Testament that homosexuality is a sin?

» Feature Writer Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen - Is homosexuality a sin in Scripture?

In response to Hatred posted by jcredmond:

In Romans 1:27 it says that "men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion."

Somewhere else, I wish I could recall where, it says that men shall not lie with other men. Or maybe it said something about wicked times and men laying with other men.

I like Brian's description of disagreeing but not hating. I think it's important to discern what you think is right or wrong, moral or immoral, and be able to share your opinion - without judging or condemning.

Is it possible to have the "live and let live" attitude, at the same time as you have the "I think homosexuality goes against my Christian beliefs" attitude?

.
Good question.
.
One possibility of mixing secularist and religionist ideologies is that discussions on any issue are soon brought to conclusion. Nothing remains to be considered--God has spoken and that's that--period. Religionists walk away and no further consideratijon can be given in open forum.
.
Does that sound like sour grapes on the secularists part? Be that as it may be, it also is a demonstrable truth. And, with it, we're able to put our finger on the major threat religionism makes against any society where it is allowed to have official standing. And we are presently under notice that a large voting block in America is prepared to do battle in order to gain an official foothold in our legal system. Its members are committed to chip away at our secular defenses until they are able to establish their right to rule over the rest of us by law. Liberty demands our constant vigilance. Religionism IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN a notorious enemy of liberty.

How could any voting block acquire a 'Right To Rule' over the rest of us?
.
Easy. Make sure the president will appoint justices to the Supreme Court that are favorable to its position. That is EXACTLY what presidents try to do. We need strongly secular presidents in the Oval Office to appoint justices that will rule over us.

May I also point out that presidents and justices who claim to "rule over us" are claiming supernatural power.

It doesn't take a Dawkins to realize that humans don't have supernatural powers. Name one human being in the Bible (Jesus doesn't count since He was God in the flesh) who had supernatural powers.

There are prophets mentioned in the Bible; Jesus coming was foretold before he arrived. I would think the gift of prophesy is a supernatural ability.

True, but these prophets learnt their info from God. God showed them of the things that would come to pass. They didn't have that ability by themselves.

I was actually meaning no one has supernatural abilities that they possess on there own.:)
