Once you get off the hook?

Don't go back and take the bait again.
.
Time to come up with your information about the Church at Quail Creek. At least outline the details so we can get on with your concerns.

.
Hey, Jones, is James Moore an acquaintance of yours?
.
I know he is a journalist and political writer who hails from Austin.
.
And, you say you are from Austin and are a writer in the Texax Monthly if I remember correctly.
.
That article you want us to read? Are you the author?

» Brother_Jones - on following Jesus

In response to James Moore posted by pink101:

I am unfamiliar with James Moore and not a writer for Texas Monthly or any publication, (I wish). Sorry for the trouble. It really is a short article on a speaker and author who has written a book called, The Return. It is perhaps very familiar ground for those who grew up listening to dispensationalist premillenialism. I did not grow up that way.

In the 60's and early 70's there was significant debate between Baptist and Church of Christ over the idea of Jesus' return. The complex details of Tribulation Theology generally were of little interest to me, but there were some folk who studied it in detail to 'prove' the textual difficulties in trying to make a case for Jesus return with a heavenly army. It is interesting that so many followers of Christ seem ready at a moments notice to abandon the quiet lifestyle of teaching and sharing the faith for a stance that seems to include being 'more than a conqueror,' and standing over some supposed enemy with drawn sword. It seems that everytime a major war has engulfed the world, there are certain Christians who heat up the evangelical crowd with promises of ruling and reigning over a defeated set of nations.

i am just an oldtimer for the Lord.

With apologies to William Shakespeare:
.
"Seems, jones! nay it is; I know not 'seems.'
'Tis not alone my inky cloak, good brother,
Nor customary suits of solemn black,
Nor windy suspiration of forced breath,
No, nor the fruitful river in the eye,
Nor the dejected 'havior of the visage,
Together with all forms, moods, shapes of grief,
That can denote me truly: these indeed seem,
For they are actions that a man might play:
But I have that within which passeth show;
These but the trappings and the suits of woe."

Does one have to grow up a certain way for this doctrine to be true? either it is, or it is not. As one who has looked at this subject, without the brainwashing of "growing up" with some denomination, it appears to me that the premillenial version is as the scriptures reveal.

Heavenly army? Uhmmm...

The complex details of Tribulation Theology

Complex? Seems a rather simple doctrine to understand, in my opinion:)

It is interesting that so many followers of Christ seem ready at a moments notice to abandon the quiet lifestyle of teaching and sharing the faith for a stance that seems to include being 'more than a conqueror,' and standing over some supposed enemy with drawn sword.

#1 - I don't think the bible says that a person will have a quiet lifestyle if they decide to preach the Gospel message. In fact, it is more likely to cause serious confrontation. The beginning of the Church, it actually cost a persons life. Nothing quiet about it, especially with our brothers and sisters who are now being murdered for declaring the Gospel message, such as in Vietnam, China, etc...

I think that would apply to just about anyone who would call themselves anything!
