NBC stations around the country will broadcast the Jimmy Stewart classic this evening. It still resonates today.

The classic film, It's a Wonderful Life, still resonates today despite its age. Starring Jimmy Stewart, the Frank Capra classic profiles the ambitious, yet ever-dependable and honorable George Bailey who is forced to give up his dreams when his father suffers an untimely death.

Bailey becomes bitter and despondent, when his life of selfless sacrifice - a path he believed was noble and just - falls apart at the prospect of an embezzlement charge. Desperate, he attempts suicide - only to be saved by the angel "Clarence," who is trying to earn his wings. Clarence has to convince Bailey that his life is, in fact, wonderful and very much worth living.

While not a Christian film per se, It's a Wonderful Life is set in a monotheistic context, with God and angels. It also embraces the notions that a) all life is sacred, and b) success is not to be measured by material wealth.
