In an interview with the New York Times magazine, Mike Huckabee was asked about Mormonism (formally known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). Huckabee was specifically questioned on whether he regards Mormonism as a "cult" or a "religion." Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, responded that he considers Mormonism a "religion."
As a Baptist preacher myself, I can tell you that a sizable number (if not a majority) of conservative, evangelical Christians consider Mormonism a cult. But Huckabee, for understandable reasons, probably chose prudence over theology in answering that question.
Then, Huckabee raised the question of whether Mormons believe Jesus and Lucifer to be "brothers." Romney pounced on this question as an attack, and news services seem to be agreeing.
Is it an attack, though, to raise a public question about a candidate's religious faith - when that candidate's faith has already become a public issue? What's more, is it an attack if you are being asked about the subject in a magazine interview?
