Wisdom from Martin Luther King on Prayer

One simple, pithy quote from Dr. Martin Luther King reminds us how critical prayer is for a follower of God.

Civil rights leader and minister Martin Luther King, Jr. once said: "To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.”

Truer words could not have been spoken. It is essential that those who profess to believe in Christ back that up with action - and the one action that we should never cease from doing is prayer. The apostle Paul, in fact, tells us to "pray without ceasing."

God created humanity for His glory and for His fellowship. He wants to have an interactive relationship with us, and prayer is (while we are on this earth) essential to that relationship. We must pray. And we must not cease from doing so.

Just as Dr. King says breathing is needed for us to stay alive physically, prayer is essential for us to remain alive and vibrant in Christ.
