The atheist video "10 Questions Every Intelligent Christian Must Answer" poses one of the following questions....
"Why Does the Bible Contain so much Scientific Nonsense?"
Once again....no one in their right mind could possibly consider this an honest or fair question. It's loaded for bear (as they say) from the outset.
The video of course goes after the Creation account in Genesis. (Surprise, surprise). It also mentions the Flood, Jonah being in the fish's stomach, and so forth. The video states matter-of-factly that these things didn't happen.
FIRST...many Christians consider some (or most) of these stories to be allegorical. According to this view, the Bible isn't full of "nonsense," but rather addressing profound truths through vivid, memorable stories and/or literary imagery.
SECOND...even those Christians (including yours truly) who see reality in the Bible's more incredible tales acknowledge that they were written by ancient authors within a time-sensitive and culturally germane context.
THIRD...the video betrays a stubborn, inflexible naturalistic mindset that utterly rejects the supernatural and the very possibility of miracles. Why should the Bible - a book of religion - be judged by such a closed-minded, atheist standard?
If you're an atheist reading this blog...PLEASE consider that question: Why should theistic literature be judged by atheistic standards? After all...it's obvious that an atheist (by the very definition of the worldview) will reject the biblical tales of the supernatural. But an atheist has NO claim to superior standing to somehow assume that his atheistic standards are the only ones that matter.
