Vision of the Lampstand and Olive Trees

Zecharah's Fifth Vision in One Night

Mar 18, 2009 Jonathan Taylor

In this vision the lampstand relates to the seven-branched candlestick used in the temple known as the Menorah and the olive trees are the two witnesses in Revelation 11.

The number seven throughout scripture refers to perfection. The oil that was poured on would be used continuously to keep the lamp burning all the time. Oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit and all believers need the Spirit’s fresh anointing in their daily walk with Yahweh.

With reference to the seven Spirits and upon the reign of Jesse’s offspring it was prophesied of the Messiah. "And a branch shall grow out of its roots, The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord." (Isa 11:1-2)

The Two Olive Trees

These refer to the two witnesses of Revelation 11:3-4 during the tribulation known as "the time of Jacob’s trouble" in Jer 30:7. In relation to the oil on the menorah, it is worthy of note that the term "the two anointed ones" literally means "sons of fresh oil."

"And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one 1260 days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees and the two lamp stands standing before the God of the earth." (Rev 11:3-4)

Zechariah is then given a divinely inspired word for Zerubbabel. "Not by might nor by power but by My Spirit," says the Lord of hosts. (Zech 3:6)

Obviously both Zerubbabel and Joshua were obedient in working on the house of Yahweh as commanded. However success would not be granted according to the strength and skill of the workforce but was determined by the Spirit.

The passage "Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubabbel you shall become a plain" (Zech 4:7) refers to Kingdoms opposing a Godly system of government for the nation of Israel.

The subject of Jeremiah 51 is the utter destruction of Babylon. Jeremiah 51:25 reads “Behold I am against you, O destroying mountain, who destroys all the earth,” says the Lord. “And I will stretch out My hand against you, Roll you down from the rocks, And make you a burnt mountain,"

Yahweh prepared the Medes and Persians formerly as a carpenter to oust Babylon. The finality of Babylon’s fall though is announced in Revelation 18:21 "Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore."

The Completion of the Temple

This is a demonstration of the sovereignty of Yahweh and the nation of Israel is a witness to the surrounding nations. "For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the Lord, which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth." (Zech 3:10)

The eyes of the Lord are a picture of Yahweh’s omniscience. As He is omnipotent He exercises complete control of the empires referred to as the four horns that had down trodden Israel.

Yahweh is equally effective in appointing the four carpenters to remove the four horns to make Himself known to His people and whoever is willing to hearken unto Him. "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him." (2 Chronicles 16:9)
