The Ministry of Myles MunroeComparing His Words With the Words of Scripture
Dr. Myles Munroe is a popular evangelist on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. This article will contrast his teachings with those of cripture.
Dr. Myles Munroe is the Senior Pastor of Bahamas Faith Ministries International, based in Nassau, Bahamas and is a frequent speaker on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. God Is Here IllegallyLike other Word of Faith proponents, he believes that God needs permission to operate on earth. Munroe once related that he asked God “‘Oh, Lord, heal this man.’ God says ‘No, no, no, talk to the sickness. I’m already healing the guy. What I need is permission to get the healing on earth.’” It’s noteworthy that nowhere does it say this in Scripture. Munroe believes God needs the permission of Christians because he thinks that God is illegally on this earth. “So a human is a spirit in a body who God gave dominion on the earth to. Therefore, any spirit without a body is illegal on earth...and God established that law, which means that no spirit can come to this earth legally and interfere in its affairs unless it has a body. God locked Himself out." In fact, Munroe maintains that God couldn’t send the plagues against Pharaoh without the permission of Moses. Munroe stated, “Everything Moses announced, God performed. He couldn’t just perform it. He needed Moses to pronounce it. So Moses says ‘There will be flies.’ God says ‘Thank you very much,’ whoosh, and He blew flies…" A student of the Bible will remember that God didn’t need permission to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah or to kill Ananias and Sapphira or to take the life of David’s son. Nebuchadnezzar learned his lesson the hard way. He said, “God’s dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation. All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: ‘What have you done?’” (Daniel 4:34, 35, emphasis added.) According to Munroe it took Jesus to make Christ legal on earth. Speaking about Mary, he said, “Mary bore Jesus, but God gave Christ. And now we have Christ inside of Jesus. Jesus is the child, but Christ is the Son. In other words, Jesus is the man, but Christ is the Spirit. Therefore Jesus made Christ legal on earth….without Jesus there could be no Christ on earth legally.” Munroe is teaching the ancient heresy of Nestorianism, the teaching that Jesus Christ is two distinct Persons rather than one Person with two distinct natures. Speaking Things Into ExistenceMunroe also believes that you can speak your own world into existence. In quoting Genesis 1:26, he states “First, God created man in His own image. The word ‘image’ means character, nature, moral, spiritual character….You have the same nature as God Himself….You have the essence and the characteristics of God. Then ‘likeness’ means you function like God….He functions by speaking until things come into being. In other words, your voice, your lips are the most powerful force you have because whatever man speaks comes to pass.….He (God) speaks and things happen, you speak and they happen. That’s why you have to be careful what you hear, because if you hear something you end up saying it and then it happens to you too." Pastors may argue that this is nothing short of pure superstition, as a check of Strong’s Concordance indicates that “likeness” means “like, manner, fashion, similitude.” It is never used in scripture to mean “function like.” Division in The TrinityMunroe again offers up a debatable claim when he says, “God and the Word and the Spirit will never be on earth at the same time…See, if God and the Holy Ghost and Jesus were on the earth at the same time, you wouldn’t know who to listen to.” In this statement not only does Munroe deny God’s omnipresence, but he implies that the Trinity might give contradictory messages to someone. Jesus made it clear that a kingdom divided against itself would fall, and that is what would happen if the Trinity were divided. Choosing Your Shepherds WiselyPaul warned Timothy that the day would come when men would not put up with sound doctrine, but gather around them teachers to tell them what their itching ears wanted to hear (2 Tim. 4:3). So believers should examine their preachers' teachings, as they can vary dramatically from what the Bible teaches. Sources:
