At times in Scripture God reveals His names and titles to describe Himself.
For example when a lamb was provided in the place of Isaac, God revealed Himself as Yahweh Yireh 'The LORD who provides.' The name YHWH or Yahweh is His name in Hebrew. YHWH is His Name'YHWH' is derived from the verb 'to be'. So when God proclaimed to Moses that 'I AM' it means 'I AM THAT I AM' or 'I AM THAT I WILL BE' because God is not confined by time or space in the same way that others are, as He is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. A huge amount concerning God's nature and character can be learnt by studying His self proclaimed compound names. In addition, Scripture is full of statements regarding His unchanging character. More importantly the Bible is God's word and by the revelation of His Holy Spirit people are able to know Him and trust Him on a deeper level. ElohimElohim means mighty ones. In Hebrew Genesis 1 :1 reads 'Bereshit bara Elohim' and the equivalent literal translation is ' In beginning mighty ones created.' Basically the point here is that the Godhead is plural and was fully active in the creation and also throughout the Bible and is today and forevermore. Here then is a list of many of God's compound names and titles.
