Meaningful Christening and Baptism GiftsBaptism and Christening Gift Ideas for Babies, Children and Adults
A christening or baptism is a significant faith milestone. Whether celebrated as a baby, child or adult, there are several gifts suitable to commemorate the special day.
A christening or baptism is a public declaration of faith. There are a variety of gifts that celebrate the faith aspect of this important decision with options available to suit every age and budget. Christening Gifts for Babies and ChildrenAs infant christenings and baptisms are common for many major denominations, most Christian gift shops or bookstores stock a range of commemorative items as do some stores specialising in clothing and items for babies. A children’s Bible or book of Bible stories is less likely to be put away or collect dust on a shelf than a standard Bible at this age. There are a variety of children’s Bibles available with simplified stories and vibrant illustrations to engage preschoolers. Older children might appreciate one of the more interactive children’s Bibles which can include a variety of puzzles, word games, hypothetical scenarios with questions or charts and diagrams to help children understand the context and application of what they are reading. Several authors such as Max Lucado, Sheila Walsh and Kathryn O’Brien have written picture books that emphasize a child’s value and worth. These are a beautiful gift to remind children that they are significant to God and to their family and friends. If the child has a Bible name or the name of a Saint recognised by his/her particular denomination, a book about that person or some other gift related to the name can be considered. A CD of gentle worship songs that can be played at bedtime, such as Bedtime Prayers by Twila Paris, can be a soothing gift for a young child. There are a variety of Christian children’s DVDs available suitable as gifts. Remembering to consider the denomination and preferences of the parents, these might include VeggieTales, The Narnia Chronicles, Max Lucado’s Wemmicks series, The Legend of the Three Trees, Adventures in Odyssey or a variety of others. A framed photo taken on the day is a very special memento of the occasion and is an appropriate gift for any age. Consider having the date of the christening/baptism engraved on to the frame if possible as an extra special touch. Baptism Gifts for Teens and Adults As the decision to be baptised as a teen or adult is generally a personal commitment of faith, there may be Bible verses or other quotes that have a particular significance. These can be engraved or written on gifts where appropriate. Jewellery such as a ring, bracelet or necklace can either have a cross pendant or can be engraved with a Bible verse reference and/or the date if desired. A study Bible is an ideal gift for someone who is making a greater commitment to their faith. Ask whether there is a particular Bible translation or style of study Bible that they would particularly like or they may prefer a Bible case or cover for an existing Bible. The Bible is available on CD in several different translations. Some may find this more useful and accessible than an additional print Bible. A devotional, Bible study guide or book by a favourite Christian author can be inscribed inside with the date and signed as a special memento. CDs or DVDs of favourite Christian artists or worship groups are an easy and inexpensive gift option. Commemorate a Special Christian Event No matter what the gift, including a personal prayer is a special way to celebrate the significance of the decision to be christened or baptised. Write the prayer on a piece of parchment or stationery or use a script font and print using a computer. A christening or baptism is a special event in the Christian walk of an individual. Family and friends can contribute to the special memories of this occasion by thoughtfully selecting a gift that will celebrate the faith aspects of this important occasion.
