The summer is almost upon us. Make this a great opportunity to provide some events for the kids in your church.

With school letting out for the year, your church can become the fun place to hang out in the summer. Plan some really cool events for kids and their families this year, and you know that you have provided some clean, wholesome fun that everyone can enjoy.

Tips:

  • Remember to tap into all of your resources at church, including people, by advertising for helpers in your church bulletin, or if you need specific equipment that someone might be able to donate/lend for the event.
  • Have a 5 to 10 minute devotion before the event.

Movie Night

Plan a night where kids can bring their friends to come watch a movie, have a snack, and enjoy each other's company. Pick a movie that is funny, but clean. Some ideas for this event might include:

  • A candy stand where kids can purchase candy bars and snacks for a low cost.
  • A big popcorn popper for a fresh and healthy snack.
  • Offer juices and water instead of sodas.

Missions Awareness Theme Night

Say your church supports missionaries in Mexico or Africa. Have a night where you serve a dinner based on that mission land and have some games that are popular among kids in those countries.

Mexico Night might include:

  • Tacos
  • Nachos
  • A Mexican bean toss game
  • Break a pinata

Use your imagination and find great resources on the Internet.

Destination Unknown

Plan an evening where your church van or the aid of driver's will take the kids to a surprise place. Advertise as "Unknown Destination." You can take them to a snowball stand, an ice cream shop, or to visit some older church members who cannot get out of their house much. Take them cookies or cards. Taking kids to a park is a lot of fun, too! Just make sure it is a surprise for the kids.

Occupation Night

Bring in a church member, or some other guest that is trusted to give your kids a lesson. Some ideas for this might include:

  • K-9 policeman to give a lesson on dog training.
  • Have a caricature artist come in to draw portraits and talk about his profession.
  • A dance instructor could give tips on dancing and provide a lesson.

Don't forge to utilize the people in your church who have unusual or unique talents to teach the kids. This keeps costs down and the more interesting the occupation, the better attendance you will have for the event.

Sundae Fun Day Event

Have a night where kids and their families can come out and make their own sundaes and just play outside. If you do not have a play place at your church, perhaps hold the event at a local park. Bring a variety of ice cream flavors and all the toppings you think of. You can even have waffle cone cups, regular cones, and bowls. Don't forget the paper towels, plastic spoons, and Wet Ones. Charge a nominal fee for the event, if you desire.
